Early Life and Career

Johnson was born in Hayward, California, on May 2, 1972.

Rocky Johnson, his father, was a professional wrestler, and Ata Maivia, his mother, was the daughter of a wrestler. His father is of Black Nova Scotian ancestry, and her mother is of Samoan ancestry, which accounts for his exotic appearance.

Dwayne Johnson, who had no intention of following in his father’s footsteps, attended the University of Miami and showed potential with his stature and agility before injuries hampered him.

Rocky Johnson, his father, was a professional wrestler. Ata Maivia, his mother, was the daughter of a wrestler.

His father is of Black Nova Scotian ancestry, and his mother is of Samoan ancestry, which accounts for his exotic appearance.

He was an athletic adolescent who took an interest in a variety of sports. He was a football, track and field member, and wrestling team at his high school.

Football was his favorite sport, and he earned a full scholarship to play defensive tackle at the University of Miami.

Unfortunately, an injury ended his football career. He earned his Bachelor in General Studies in criminology and physiology in 1995.

His father gave him his first training as a wrestler after pursuing a career in the sport.

Dwayne Johnson: Career

In 1996, Dwayne Johnson made his WWF debut as Rocky Maivia, and the following year, he defeated Hunter Hearst Helmsley for the WWF Intercontinental Championship on Monday Night Raw.

He later changed his ring name to “The Rock” and became a prominent professional wrestler with several championships under his belt.

His wrestling prowess, coupled with his rugged good looks, made him a hit with female audiences, and he began getting offers to feature on both the small and large screens.

In 2000, he hosted “Saturday Night Live” after starring in a music video. In 2001, he made his big-screen appearance as The Scorpion King in the opening sequence of “The Mummy Returns.”

The film’s success led to the release of a sequel, “The Scorpion King,” in 2002, in which Johnson played Mathayus.

He reportedly received $5.5 million for this film, and it went on to be a moderate hit.

“The Game Plan” was a 2007 family comedy starring him as Joe Kingman, a divorced father. The film exceeded $17 million in its opening weekend.

In 2009, he starred in the science fiction film “Race to Witch Mountain,” based on Alexander Key’s novel “Escape to Witch Mountain.”

This film, too, debuted at No. 1 and became a major box office success.

Dwayne Johnson starred as Luke Hobbs, a Diplomatic Security Service agent, in The Fast and the Furious film series’ fifth installment, ‘Fast Five,’ in 2011.

The film was a critical success for Johnson, grossing over $86 million in its opening weekend.

In 2013, he played Luke Hobbs again in ‘Fast & Furious 6,’ the sixth film in the Fast and Furious franchise. His co-stars included Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Gina Carano, and John Ortiz.

The film grossed over $780 million worldwide, placing it at No—50 on the list of highest-grossing films of all time.

In 2015, he starred in ‘Furious 7,’ the seventh installment of The Fast and the Furious franchise.

Like the previous films in the franchise, this one became a success and earned critical acclaim for its action scenes.

XFL Co-Owner

Earlier in 2020, Johnson revealed he had acquired the XFL, which had gone bankrupt earlier, for $15 million. A sports management firm and his wife partnered to buy the league.

In a tweet, Johnson said, “The purchase of the XFL with my brilliant friends, Dany Garcia and Gerry Cardinale, is an investment for me that’s embedded firmly in two things—my love for the game and my ability; always to take care of the fans.” “I hope to add these callouses to the XFL and look forward to doing something special for the clubs, supporters, and all involved for the love of football,” he says.

Becoming the Rock

Johnson turned to wrestle with few professional football opportunities, making his WWE debut in Texas against the Brooklyn Brawler.

After a few more matche, the WWE signed him under the name Flex Kavana, including a tag team victory with Bart Sawyer.

He joined The Nation of Domination a year later, finally becoming its leader and assuming the Rock.

He eventually joined The Corporation, a group of elite wrestlers, and started an infamous rivalry with Steve Austin.
